| GILL HENDERSON
Practising yoga formally for over 20 years and teaching
for almost a decade. She is passionate as yoga as a way of
life. After teaching yoga for the first time Gill realised
that this is what she wanted to do with the rest of her life.
Gill teaches yoga full time and has continued to study
yoga intensively in Northern Ireland and all over the world
( including India), with some of the world's leading teachers.
She has been greatly influenced by the teachings of Michael
McCann, Swami Nischalananda (Mandala Yoga Ashram). As well
as David Sye, Donna Farhi, David Swenson, Sharon Gannon and
David Life (Jivamukti), Uma Dinsmore Tuli (Sitaram) and Dr
Francoise Freedman (Birthlight). She is greatly indebted to
the teachings of the Bihar School of Yoga, Paramahamsa
Satyananda and Paramahamsa Niranjananada .
After training at the Yttc almost 10 years ago Gill began
teaching in Bangor and continues to run friendly flowing
classes there on Wednesday nights.
Nine years ago Gill sowed the seeds of Pregnancy yoga in
Northern Ireland, aiming to make it affordable and accessible.
She studied the Perinatal Yoga Diploma with Birthlight's
founder Dr Francoise Freedman and Uma Dinsmore Tuli, (Sitaram)
in London. She then went on to study for the Diploma in Baby
and Smart Toddler Yoga at Birthlight and has worked with mums
and babies over the last 9 years. She has trained in Dublin
in 2009 to teach Baby massage with Kirsty Hawthorne in the IAIM
tradition. All these classes are regularly attended by
healthcare practitioners.
As Gill holds diplomas in all of these areas, she is
qualified and insured to teach adults and for parents and
caregivers to practice with babies too.
PHILOSOPHY
Since practising and teaching yoga Gill has seen life
in the western world become faster and more stressful.
People are losing touch with themselves and everyone else
around them. Our culture has become increasingly materialistic
and always 'doing'.
'Yoga cannot provide a cure for life, but does
present a proven method for coping with it.'
Paramahamsa Satyananda-( Asana, Pranayama, Mudra,
Bandha)
By practising yoga we can change the pattern and gradually
let go of fears, guilt, jealousies, greed, selfish ambitions
and pride. In their place come tolerance, compassion, kindness,
humility, contentment and trust in the supreme power behind
the universe which supports us all of the time. It is Gill's
endeavour to follow the teaching of the great Indian sage
Ramana Maharshi,
'All one gives to others one gives back to one's self.'
VISION
Gill's classes aim to provide a yoga community where
people support each other. She has a fun , light- hearted
approach to teaching. All classes begin with time to share
and get to know each other. Many friendships have been
formed and people help each other through life's challenges.
It is also a great joy for her to know that the babies are
growing up together.
'The more happiness you give .......The more happiness you
will receive. This is the expanding spiral of joy.
