POSTNATAL AND BABY YOGA
For babies from 4 weeks to crawling
Gill has been working with mums and babies for over
8 years. The classes are a unique fusion of fun- flowing, movement
based yoga practices for mums and babies combined to help
calm and
revitalise. They last for one and a half hours so that time can
be given within a nurturing environment for both mother and
babies.
No previous experience is required. It has been a joy
to welcome back mothers with their second and third yoga babies!
Women and babies can get to know and support each other. It is
impossible to separate Baby yoga and Postnatal yoga as the mums
and babies practice together. This is the yoga of touch and
love, yoga of the heart! The practices learned can then be easily
incorporated into home life. A mother who attended a few
years ago commented on how they were like, 'an oasis
of calm' within an increasingly busy world.
A baby friendly environment, where babies can be fed,
changed, rocked or sleep. There are often many breast-feeding
women attending.

Postnatally
The babies are integrated into their mother's practice. The
yoga posture work helps women to reclaim their body after giving
birth, as well as to release tension accumulated during whatever
type of birth experience she has. It is fun and revitalising
especially if women are getting less sleep. |

Postnatal Yoga helps:-
Ease out and strengthen the back
Tone the pelvic floor
Close the body
Stabilise the pelvis
Tone the abdominal area
Release tension in shoulders from feeding and lifting |

 |
'It is through practising yoga together that mums and babies
increase their bonds which influences their environment and
outlook on life becomes more harmonious',
Deansin Goodsin Parker in Yogababy
Baby Yoga
Adored by babies. A magical combination of dry massage
sequences and holds. Through the emotional and physical contact
provided by Baby yoga the mothers are inadvertently stimulating
their baby's somasensory experience too. With practice the
mothers' confidence in handling her baby / babies grows. |
 |
Baby Yoga helps:-
Mums to gain confidence in reading her baby's cues
Aid physical and mental development
Create supple joints
Relieve constipation and colic
Help establish good sleep and feeding patterns |

The physical practices of yoga help babies to stretch out
and be more aware of their bodies after being tightly curled up
with in their mother's womb. First time mums and mothers who have
more than one child will have time to bond with their babies.
Music, songs and rhymes ensure the class is stimulating and fun,
so you can't wait to practice at home.
'Doing yoga with a baby means playing, stretching and
then relaxing together, each participant focusing on the
other.'
Francoise Freedman, Baby Yoga
Yoga breathing (pranayama) can help to revitalise a
mother's energy. A mother who stays calm through using yoga
breathing will then pass on this sense of security and peace to
her baby. The breathing practices are invaluable for life .
The deep yoga relaxation (yoga nidra) is a time when
fears can be dispelled and tension released and women and babies
then leave feeling relaxed and energised. It is the equivalent to
five hours sleep and invaluable for women who may be getting less
sleep. The babies pick up on the relaxed atmosphere in the room
and are very often asleep by the end of the class!
After the class mums and babies then very often lunch
together and arrange other social events. Bonds and friendships
are often made between people that last for years. |
